I created the "Couple's Weekend" in 2003 shortly after completing my certification as an Imago Therapist. While similar, my workshop is not the same as the "Getting the Love You Want" workshop created by Harville Hendrix. I opted to utilize my Imago relationship training to create a gay and lesbian specific workshop that addresses relationship concerns that are unique for gay men and lesbians.
The number one concern I hear couples express about attending the couples weekend is their need to protect their relationship privacy and concerns that they will have to "air their dirty laundry." It is my promise to couples that no one is required to share anything about their relationship - at all - during the entire weekend. Your level of self-disclosure is voluntary and optional - IT IS NOT A REQUIREMENT. You are 100% in charge at all times of what you share and when you share it.
Through the course of the two-day workshop, couples are given opportunities to practice the skills taught in a private room or area of the office without an audience. There is also a significant amount of education provided via PowerPoint, as well as a 92 page workbook with several writing assignments sprinkled throughout the workshop. This allows each participant to specifically explore the ways in which the material being discussed affects him or her.
Obviously the more you participate and share, the greater your benefit, and luckily there are always couples who are willing to be open and take advantage of the opportunity to share their concerns and experiences with others. What you will discover is that our relationship issues are not unique. We all tend to experience similar concerns and frustrations - and that discovery alone is very reassuring.
What Can I expect to gain from The Weekend?

Learn the stages of relationship development
Identify your Imago
Discover the formula for a healthy relationship
Create a conscious connection with your partner
Explore
Develop a shared purpose for your relationship
Connect personal excellence with relationship success
Uncover blocks to physical intimacy

Will we have to talk about our personal issues in front of other couples?
There will be opportunities for couples to volunteer to role-play a skill, but your level of disclosure about your relationship is entirely up to you. You do not have to share anything about your relationship with the other couples that you do not want to.
What kind of couples will be there?
The Weekend is open to gay and lesbian couples. This is a great resource for any couple. You may already have a strong relationship and use The Weekend as a way to tune-in to and tune-up your relationship, or you may be struggling and use to The Weekend to begin finding your way back to each other. There will be a mixture of couples - some functioning better than others, but all with a desire to improve their relationship!
What is the schedule for The Weekend?
Saturday 9am-5pm (1.5 hour lunch on your own)
Note: THERE WILL BE HOMEWORK! :)
Sunday 9am-5pm (1.5 hour lunch on your own)
Can you describe what The Weekend will be like once we are there?
We will convene in a comfortable meeting room that is casual, intimate and functional. There will be breaks to stretch and snack (beverages/snacks provided) and an hour-and-a-half for lunch on your own. The weekend There will be a blend education (lectures), process (discussion about what we are learning as it applies to your relationship), and exercises. All exercises are done privately with your partner, separate from the group. Michele O'Mara will observe each couple doing their exercises and be available to guide and support your individual work.
How much does The Weekend cost?
The weekend is $550 per couple. This is less than half the cost of the equivalent amount of couple's counseling! Payment plans are available if necessary, and we do accept Visa and Mastercard as payment options.
How does The Weekend compare to couple's counseling?
The Weekend is about building OUTstanding relationships. The emphasis is on strengthening relationships, creating a hopeful, forward-moving momentum on which you can continue building and strengthening your relationship. Though this is not counseling, and in many ways it is more like an intensive class on relationships, The Weekend does offer you all of the benefits of counseling and more. The Weekend is designed to bring out the best in both you and your partner, for the good of your relationship.
If we are traveling from out-of-town, where should we stay?
If you are traveling from out of town and wish to find accommodations near the workshop, there is a Best Western located at 55 South High School Road. This hotel is fairly new and in good shape. It is just off of I-465 and offers reasonable rates ($75-$90 depending on the time of year). Best of all, it is only 1/2 mile from our office. If you prefer to search hotel accommodations on your own, you have many options as O'Mara and Associates is located just two miles directly north of the Indianapolis Airport.

Coming Out of Heterosexual Relationships
Michele, your workshop is self analyzing and provides tools for me to review our relationship, focus on areas to change and to acknowledge what’s working well. The workshop provides a great opportunity to learn and practice a communication tool that will transform our relationship forever. Michele, you are the perfect facilitator. Very thought provoking! ~ Liz
Informative, interesting and insightful. It forced me to look within myself at issues I’ve tried to ignore for years. It also helped me to look at my partner differently in that I had new insight as to what drew me towards choosing her and why some of her characteristics are hard for me to sit with. ~ Paula
